Mechanical
Service

From routine logbook servicing through to complex engine rebuilds, our technicians bring factory-trained expertise to every job. We service all Porsche models, air-cooled classics to the latest 992, plus the full range of European marques.

🔧
Logbook Service

Manufacturer-specified logbook servicing that protects your warranty. Full digital service record and complimentary vehicle health check with every visit.

Your logbook service at Tec-Nine follows the manufacturer's exact service schedule, the same intervals, the same specifications, and the same quality of parts as an authorised dealer, but with the personal attention and competitive pricing of an independent specialist.

Every service includes a multi-point vehicle health check covering fluids, filters, brakes, tyres, lighting, belts and drive systems. We use genuine or OEM-equivalent parts throughout, and every visit is digitally logged so your service history remains complete and verifiable, important for both warranty protection and resale value. Our technicians flag anything that needs attention now or will need attention soon, giving you full visibility before any additional work is carried out.

🔬
Diagnostics

State-of-the-art PIWIS IV and ODIS diagnostic equipment covering every Porsche and European model. Fast, accurate fault identification for all electronic systems.

Tec-Nine runs Porsche's own PIWIS IV factory diagnostic system, the same tool used by every authorised Porsche dealer in the world. This isn't an aftermarket scanner with limited capability; it's the complete factory solution, covering every electronic module across the entire Porsche model range from the earliest 996 through to the current 992 generation, Taycan, Cayenne and Macan.

Diagnosis goes beyond reading fault codes. PIWIS IV enables programming, module coding, adaptation resets and software updates, functions simply not available with third-party tools. For VW Group vehicles we run ODIS, with equivalent factory-level depth. If your car has thrown a warning light, is behaving unusually, or you want a thorough electronic health check ahead of purchase or track use, a diagnostic session at Tec-Nine gives you the complete picture.

🏎️
Engine Rebuild

Complete engine overhaul and rebuild services. From air-cooled 911s to modern turbocharged powerplants, precision work from specialist technicians.

Engine work is where specialist knowledge separates a great workshop from a good one. At Tec-Nine we've rebuilt engines across the full Porsche lineage, from the mechanical simplicity of the air-cooled flat-six through to the complexity of modern direct-injection turbocharged units. Each rebuild is approached with the same methodical attention: full disassembly, measurement, assessment, and reassembly to manufacturer tolerances using quality components.

Whether you've suffered a catastrophic failure, an IMS bearing issue, bore wear, or want a proactive rebuild before high-mileage problems develop, we'll give you an honest assessment of what's required and what it will cost. We don't cut corners and we don't fit inferior parts. The result is an engine that performs and lasts, backed by our workmanship warranty.

⚙️
Brake Service

Brake inspection, pad and disc replacement, brake fluid service, and caliper rebuild. Track-ready or road-going, we use only quality components.

Brakes are the single most important safety system on your car, and Porsche's braking hardware is among the finest in the world, provided it's maintained correctly. At Tec-Nine we carry out the full spectrum of brake work: routine pad and disc replacement, caliper servicing and rebuild, brake fluid flush, braided line upgrades and PCCB ceramic composite brake system maintenance.

We stock performance brake pads from Pagid, EBC and Brembo to suit everything from daily road use to serious track work. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and degrades with heat, we recommend a full fluid flush annually for road cars and before every track day. If you're planning circuit driving, we'll assess your complete braking system and recommend the right specification for your use. Don't underestimate your brakes, let us inspect them properly.

🔩
Suspension & Steering

Full suspension setup, wheel alignment, and steering system repair. Expert handling tuning for both daily drivers and performance builds.

The way your Porsche handles is a fundamental part of the ownership experience. When the suspension or steering isn't right, whether through wear, damage or poor setup, you feel it immediately. At Tec-Nine we diagnose and repair the full suspension and steering system: control arms, bushings, ball joints, tie rods, rack and pinion, PASM components and wheel bearings.

Beyond repairs, we offer alignment and corner-weight setup using precision four-wheel alignment equipment. If you've fitted coilovers, lowering springs or wider wheels and tyres, proper alignment isn't optional, it's essential for tyre life, handling balance and safety. We also set up suspension for specific purposes: road comfort, spirited driving, or track use. Tell us how you drive your car and we'll set it up accordingly.

🔍
Pre-Purchase Inspection

Considering a Porsche or European purchase? Our comprehensive inspection gives you confidence and negotiating power before you commit.

Buying a used Porsche is one of the most exciting decisions you'll make, and one of the riskiest if you don't know what to look for. Our pre-purchase inspection is the most thorough assessment available outside of a factory delivery. We check everything: body and paint condition, structural integrity, engine health, transmission, electronics, brakes, suspension, tyres, interior and fluid condition.

Critically, we connect PIWIS IV and interrogate every electronic module, revealing stored fault codes that may have been cleared for sale, calibration flags, module replacements and any history the seller hasn't disclosed. Our inspection report is written in plain language and gives you a clear picture of the car's true condition and what remediation work, if any, is required. It regularly saves buyers thousands of dollars in unexpected repair costs, and occasionally talks someone out of a very expensive mistake.

IMS Bearing: What Every Air-Cooled Porsche Owner Should Know

The intermediate shaft bearing, universally known as the IMS bearing, is arguably the single most discussed maintenance item among water-cooled Porsche owners. If you own a 996, 997.1, Boxster 986 or 987, or Cayman, understanding this component isn't optional. It's essential.

The IMS sits at the rear of the engine and drives the camshafts via a chain. In the M96 and M97 engine families, Porsche used a sealed, non-serviceable bearing that cannot be lubricated by the engine oil system. Over time, particularly under infrequent use, the bearing can fail without warning, sending metal debris through the engine and causing catastrophic internal damage. A full engine rebuild typically follows.

Who is at risk?

All M96 and early M97 engines are potentially affected. Single-row IMS bearings (used in most 1997–2005 cars) carry the highest statistical risk. Dual-row versions introduced from 2006 are considered more robust, though not immune. Low mileage, infrequent use and irregular oil changes are the biggest risk factors.

What's the solution?

The most widely accepted fix is an IMS retrofit, replacing the factory bearing with an upgraded unit that draws lubrication directly from the engine oil supply. At Tec-Nine, we perform this procedure regularly, typically combining it with an RMS (rear main seal) and clutch replacement since the gearbox must be removed anyway. Cost combined is far less than an engine rebuild.

If you're unsure of your car's IMS status, bring it in. We'll inspect the bearing, check the oil for ferrous content, and give you an honest assessment. Catching this early is everything.

New PIWIS IV Diagnostic System Now Installed

We're pleased to announce that Tec-Nine has upgraded to the Porsche PIWIS IV, the latest generation of Porsche's own factory diagnostic system. This is the same tool used by every authorised Porsche dealer worldwide, and from March 2026, it's available right here in our Brunswick workshop.

The PIWIS IV (Porsche Integrated Workshop Information System, fourth generation) represents a significant leap over its predecessor. It offers full vehicle coverage from the earliest 996 through to the current 2026 model year lineup, including the new 992 GT3 RS, Taycan, Cayenne and Macan EV.

What does this mean for your car?

Faster, more accurate fault diagnosis. The PIWIS IV reads and clears fault codes across every electronic module in the vehicle, engine, transmission, ABS, airbag, PDCC, PASM, PCM and more. Critically, it also enables programming and coding functions that are simply unavailable with aftermarket scan tools. Software updates, module initialisation, adaptation resets, all now possible at Tec-Nine without a trip to the dealer.

Why it matters at an independent workshop

Many independent workshops, even good ones, rely on third-party diagnostic tools that lack the depth of factory software. The PIWIS IV closes that gap entirely. Paired with our team's experience, you receive dealer-level diagnostic accuracy with the personalised service and competitive pricing of an independent specialist.

Whether your car has thrown a warning light, is due for a software update, or you simply want a comprehensive health check, book in today and let the PIWIS IV tell us exactly what's happening.

Porsche & Coffee at Tec-Nine

On Sunday 7th April 2026, Tec-Nine threw open the workshop doors and welcomed Melbourne's Porsche community for our very first Porsche & Coffee event. What followed was one of the best mornings this workshop has ever seen, and we've had a few good ones.

The event was co-organised by Scott Brenchley of Outlaw Garage and our own Mathew Jones. Between the two of them, the word got out, and the response was extraordinary. Cars lined the street and filled the forecourt from early morning, and the energy from the moment the first flat-six crackled through the roller door was something special.

Cars from every era

That's the thing about Porsche people, they span generations, and so do their cars. On the day we had everything from pristine air-cooled classics to current water-cooled performance machines, each one immaculately presented and each one with a story. There were 356s, 912s, early 911s, Boxsters, Caymans, Macans, and everything in between.

But let's be honest, one car stole the show. A stunning Singer-reimagined 911 drew a crowd from the moment it arrived and barely had a moment without someone crouched beside it, phone in hand. If you know, you know.

The raffle & the RWB boards

We ran a raffle on the day, and the prizes were worth fighting over. A limited series of RWB-inspired skateboard decks, bold, graphic, and deeply automotive, went to some very happy winners. A huge thank you to everyone who bought a ticket.

To everyone who came along, brought their car, grabbed a coffee and made the morning what it was, thank you. We're already planning the next one. Watch this space.

Why Your Porsche 911 Deserves More Than a Log Book Service

A Porsche 911 is one of the most precisely engineered sports cars ever built, and that precision demands more than a routine oil change once a year. At Tec-Nine, we see 911s arrive from dealerships and general mechanics with issues that should have been caught far earlier — worn engine mounts, ageing coolant hoses, and oil consumption quietly creeping up between services.

Our Porsche-specific service schedule goes beyond the manufacturer's log book, incorporating a full multi-point inspection of the PDK or manual gearbox, IMS and RMS bearing assessment on earlier Boxster-engined variants, and a PIWIS diagnostic scan to identify stored fault codes before they become expensive failures.

Staying ahead of wear on your 911 is always cheaper than catching up with it. Book your next service with Tec-Nine and know exactly where your car stands.

BMW N54 & N55 Engines: The Maintenance Items You Can't Afford to Miss

BMW's turbocharged N54 and N55 inline-six engines are capable, rewarding units — but they come with a handful of well-documented maintenance requirements that, if overlooked, can turn a minor service into a significant repair bill.

Valve cover gaskets and the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system are among the most common failure points. A leaking valve cover gasket can allow oil to contact the ignition coils, leading to misfires that are often misdiagnosed. Similarly, a failing PCV diaphragm can cause rough idle, boost leaks, and elevated oil consumption. At Tec-Nine, we inspect both systems as a matter of course on any N54 or N55 vehicle coming in for service.

Water pump and thermostat failure are also age-related concerns on these engines. We always recommend replacing both components together, as the labour overlap makes it cost-effective and prevents being caught out by the second component failing shortly after the first. If your BMW is approaching 100,000 kilometres, talk to us about a proactive inspection.

Porsche Cayenne Service Intervals: What Melbourne Conditions Actually Require

Porsche recommends service intervals of up to 30,000 km or two years for many Cayenne variants — intervals that were designed with European driving conditions and fuel quality in mind. Melbourne's stop-start urban traffic, hot summers, and variable fuel quality mean your Cayenne is working harder than those intervals assume.

At Tec-Nine, we recommend Cayenne owners consider a 15,000 km service cycle, particularly for vehicles used frequently in city conditions or for towing. Engine oil in a turbocharged V6 or V8 under frequent short-trip conditions degrades faster than the interval suggests, and the transfer case and differentials on the Cayenne's all-wheel-drive system benefit from more regular fluid changes than the factory schedule allows.

We use only OEM-specification fluids and Porsche-approved filter media, and every Cayenne service includes a PIWIS III diagnostic scan and brake system inspection. Independent servicing doesn't mean compromised servicing — your Porsche stamp remains valid under Australian consumer law. Call us to discuss your Cayenne's service history.
